HOBY is the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership foundation. This group means the world to me. It has taught me the true meaning
of friendship, what being a leader means, and what I can do to change the world. I first went to HOBY is 1998 as an ambassador
then I returned in 2000 and 2001 to be on Junior Staff. In 2002 I was on the newly formed College Crew. In
2003 I was a Facilator for the first time and I loved it. If you want any info on this there are links on my site or
contact me and I can help you as well.
I am currently the Alumni Advisor for Colorado HOBY and on the Board of Directors. If you are an alumni in Colorado
please contact me at cohoby@yahoo.com

Hugh O'Brian and Me

The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership, known up until 1997 as the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation, was founded in 1958 by the
actor, whose major television role in the 1950's as Wyatt Earp catapulted him to stardom. On one of his many trips abroad,
he met with Albert Schweitzer, the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for his charitable works in Africa. Dr. Schweitzer presented
a challenge to Hugh O'Brian, asking him what he will do with his experience to make this world a better place, adding that
"the most important thing in education is to teach young people to think for themselves". The result of this challenge is
HOBY, which Hugh started as a single one-time event. HOBY has since grown into a renowned and award winning international
organization with several ongoing programs. From the small spark of a challenge, HOBY has developed into a full fledged series
of programs which continue to positively affect the lives of ten of thousands of high school sophomores and our future. HOBY
Colorado has graduated outstanding leaders since 1969, and annually serves over 200 high school sophomores throughout Colorado
at its four day seminar held in June. In addition, HOBY Colorado serves several hundred more students throughout the year
at its Community Leadership Education Workshop programs held at various regional locations. Our Alumni Association is quickly
growing into a recognizable force in the continuing development of its seminar graduates. HOBY Alumni are encouraged to exercise
all the resources at their disposal, and are expected to apply this tremendous reserve of knowledge and experience to real
world situations that seem to become more complex by the day.
